Lunch at Shanghai Pavillion 39F Far Eastern Hotel

A bit tired of all the recent gourmet French and Italian cuisine, I decided to visit the Shanghai Pavilion again. Although the service and food quality sometimes weren't as expected,  I really like the view and settings and atmosphere here.

stylish settings

Starters: cold chicken slices(flavored with rice alcohol); beef; cabbage heart; rose duck

This one's got a poetic name: Plum flowers in the snow

"snow" part contains: egg white with swallow nest.

"plum flowers": chopped quail meat stir fried with some red peppers and herbs.

The portion is good for 4 to 5 people to share(always better to go to Chinese restaurant with 4 or 5 people because you can order and savor more dishes instead of trying to finish 2 to 3 dishes by yourself or just with 1 or 2 friends, which is rather boring.) and better to taste it when it's really hot. Second serving was already not as good.

Very nice arugula salad with sesame seeds and light mustard soy sauce

beef stew with mushrooms and local Taiwanese greens

Napa valley Merryvale Chardonnay 2002

We ordered a half bottle. Just right for my sister and me during the lunch time. Restaurants should really consider to put more half bottles in their wine list. Chardonnay is usually a safe choice because it matches either meat or fish dishes as long as the sauce is not too heavy or spicy. This Californian white has nice straw color, hint of oak but not too much, herb and fruit aroma linger on your palate, long finish.

custard pancake

The pancake part was more similar to French style crepe. A bit crispy outside but tender inside. The butter egg yolk mixed filling melts right in your mouth.

So good, even my sister who usually doesn't like dessert couldn't resist it.

Went to check the newly refurbished cafe and Cantonese restaurant at 6th floor. Pretty good coffee and designer table ware. Elegant orchid decoration.(Also used the purple orchid theme to design their new uniform)
