Smokey Joe's, Cana Garden Restaurant and Howard Plaza

Our Kenting trips?

Yes, we went so many times, for the air, the ocean breeze,(although sometimes it could be so strong that you can hardly call it a "breeze") the only tropical atmosphere in Taiwan, for a while the surfing, and recently the only place that serves the very good chicken burritos and Margaritas.

Our daily routines?

Swimming, doing yoga for about 3 hours by the excellent Olympic size pool overlooking the ocean before brunch, resting, reading, practicing trumpet(Dan), playing with the rabbits in the afternoon and repeat the swimming, yoga routine while watching sunset before dinner. Sounds therapeutic and healthy? Yes, very. Then, it's time to reward ourselves: go to dinner and get drunk!!!

Day One:

Howard Plaza, poolside.

The flight got cancelled because it was too windy. Still got here in time for the sunset.

Beautiful time for swimming.

Poolside patio, one of our favorite yoga spots.

Poolside garden, good place to have a coffee after brunch.

Our restaurant for dinner. We dine here almost every night while visiting Kenting.

They have a big menu which fits every palate possible.

Chips and dips.

Very nice with a blended Margarita while waiting for your dishes.

Excellent Margaritas!

Delicious chicken quesadilla, crispy and juicy.

Burritos are also very good, generous portion as well.

lamp shields are creative, colorful and unique, just like the rest of the decoration, furniture and so on...

Bao Di (The manager Hank's dog.)

He's the most famous employee.

The courtyard outside of our hotel room. Very nicely landscaped.

Lovely spot to have some tea after dinner.

We always request one of the same three rooms because of this. So we can leave the door open, turn off the AC and let the air circulate.

*****

Day Two:

View of the garden from the second floor lounge.

The little hill right in front of our balcony.

We prefer this than the ocean view because it's much more private.

And you are accompanied by some interesting animals as well, geese, rabbits, cats, chickens, and one time there was even a cow. Private, but not lonely at all.

Our old friends.

The smartest rabbit.

The only one who can wander around the whole garden because nobody can find a way to corner it in the fenced area where the other rabbits are.

Twilight on the courtyard.

They made it even nicer than last year.

Reminds me of the Four seasons in Ubud, Bali.

Second dinner in Smokey Joe's.

Eager Eater.

Good Belgium beer.

One of our favorite hamburgers in Taiwan.

With lettuce, tomato, cheese and bacon.

Pizza's not bad.

Newly discovered chocolate brownie with caramelized banana, kiwi and vanilla ice cream.

Full of cocoa, not too sweet, quite good.

Coffee was OK but at least strong enough to pair with the brownie.

*****

Day Three:

Some other old friends.

Last year they were all so small and were hopping all over the place.

Third dinner at Smokey Joe's.

The German beer was Ok but not great.

Assorted German sausages.

Needed boiled potatoes instead of the fries.

Too salty like this, unless you intend to drink a lot of beer.

The Belgium one's much more flavorful.

*****

Day Four:

Morning time at the courtyard.

Too crowded at the patio so we did yoga at one of the booths on the other side of the pool.

The weather was perfect this day, partially sunny, nice cool breeze from the ocean.

It's always great to do yoga here by the pool after swimming when the weather is right.

The same smartest rabbit, and the guy?

Dinner at Ivy's newly remodeled restaurant: Cana Garden

Local fish from amongst the corals, could still taste the ocean.

Grilled squid.

Grilled beef.

Very good shrimp patty.

Excellent Mojito with fresh crushed mint leaves, very refreshing!

The entrance of the restaurant and different corners of the whole place:

Good job, Ivy, Bravo!!!

Now we got a new choice for dinner.

*****

Been visiting here since I was little, don't remember how it was like then. As far as I could remember, there was only one resort(Cesar, the first one of this type in Taiwan.) and nothing else, not even the now very commercial Kenting village.  Now we come visit at least three or four times a year, made some friends here, almost like a second home.
